D-Groups at Mosaic

A D-Group (Discipleship Group) consists of 3-5 people.  The "leader" is also a full participant of the group.  Think of them more as a "facilitator".  A D-Group is gender-specific: men meet with men, women with women.  These groups meet for 12-18 months for the purpose of multiplication, accountability and exponential growth.  A group is welcome to meet longer, but keep in mind, replication is the goal.

D-Groups meet for 60-90 minutes per week, not as a replacement for Sunday morning worship services or small groups, but as an integral supplement to the Spiritual walk of the Believer.

What happens in a D-Group?

Prayer and Conversation

Discpleship groups begin with prayer and then shift to conversations about the week.  Each group member should share at least one "high" and one "low" from their week.

Scripture Memorization

Participants choose to memorize verses as a group. The goal is not to create a stressful, legalistic focus on memorization; rather it should be an enriching, positive experience in which each member encourages and spurs on the others.  The goal is to memorize one passage of Scripture each week.  Need verse ideas?  Check out the One Pager that accompanies the sermon each week at mosaicil.com/sermons!

HEAR Journals

Once the group has worked through Scripture memorization for the week, you can transition into the sharing of HEAR Journals (Available for free at the Highland Campus).  Every component of the D-group meeting is important, but this is the most-crucial element of the gathering.  As you share what God is teaching you through His Word, you will enrich each other's walks as you grow as Disciples of Jesus.  For more info on the HEAR Journaling technique, click here!

Accountability

This is a brief time of holding each other on the path of growing as a Disciple of Jesus.  Your group can choose to ask specific questions of each other like:
  • How is your marriage?
  • How is your thought life?
  • How are your work relationships?
  • etc.

You can't expect what you don't inspect.  Actions must accompany belief.  We believe that "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another" (Prov 27:17).

Action Step and Prayer

Conclude each week with a challenge.  Based on the topic you talked about during your time together, formulate a walking point for the week.  And before you part ways, spend a few minutes in prayer.  Go around and share requests with each member taking time to pray out loud.  The goal is to spend at least as much time praying as you do requesting.  This is a sure-fire way to bolster a person's prayer life!

Additional Studies

From time to time, it may be helpful for your group to add an additional book or study.  For example, fi you have a group of new believers, you might sprinkle in a study on essential doctrine and theology.  Maybe it's a marriage study or parenting book that you include in your time each week.  Just make sure that it doesn't detract from the focus of the group's intent...growth and replication!
